General Skilled Migration (GSM) is the term used for skilled migration that does not involved being matched with a position or occupation prior to getting the Visa.

Some of these visas are subject to the Points Test but others are not.

Our Simple Approach

Permanent Visa Subclasses 189 and 190

People cannot apply directly for these visas, instead, potential applicants who are qualified and experienced in occupations that are on the Skilled Occupation Lists must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Candidates are entered into a pool, from which the Federal Government may issue an invitation to apply for visas according to the current skills requirements.

The 189 visa is an Independent visa whilst to qualify for a subclass 190 an applicant must be nominated by a State or Territory government agency.

Provisional 491 Skilled Work Regional Visa

This is a temporary visa with a permanent residence pathway via the subclass 191 visa.

Applicants are required to have been nominated by a State or Territory Government Agency.

There are circumstances where family members in Regional Areas can nominate applicants. At present, however, there are very few invitations being offered in this way and the only realistic pathway is through State or Territory nomination.

Temporary Graduate 485 Visa

This visa allows for people who have completed specified courses in Australia on student visas to apply to stay temporarily for the purpose of build work experience in Australia in their field of study.
